Volunteering Reminders

Thank you for becoming a John Marshall volunteer!

A first time visit to a building will require that we scan your driver’s license or photo ID to register you in the system (Raptor).

• If you do not have a valid ID, you may still register in the system by using your full name and birthdate.

• Upon approval, an ID badge will print

Please wear your badge the length of your visit and check-out when you are done with your volunteering opportunity.

There is parking available in the visitor lot located at the front of the school. If the visitor lot is full and you park in the student lot, please let the desk attendant know when you check in at the main entrance. If you are in the student lot, remember your car license number and write it down on the sign in/out sheet. Please leave your purse and other valuables locked out of sight in your car.

It is important to be dependable and reliable. Please call the office or Volunteer Coordinator if you will be late or absent.

Remember confidentiality and act in a professional manner. Respect a student’s privacy. What you see and hear at John Marshall, stays at John Marshall.

Volunteers should not: telephone students, dispense medications, transport students, visit them at their homes or meet students off school grounds without permission from the parents, school principal and/or district volunteer coordinator.

Always work in a highly visible area. Volunteers always work under the direct supervision of teachers and/or administrators. Discipline problems should be referred to them.

Report any suspected child maltreatment as required by law  (Refer to Child Maltreatment handout.)

Avoid blood and other body fluids (Refer to Blood Borne Pathogens handout.)

Participate in fire, tornado, and lock down drills

Training is available for specific volunteer opportunities.

Be happy! If you don’t like what you are doing - there are other volunteer opportunities.

Your presence in our schools sends a strong message that our community values education.

Thank you for making a difference!
