Rochester Public Schools ACT Results Are Released

Rochester Public Schools ACT Results Are Released

Rochester, MN - The Minnesota Department of Education has released the results of the ACT-tested graduates for the graduating class of 2017. Minnesota students once again led the nation on ACT college entrance exam scores, with an average score of 21.5, compared to the national average of 21. At Rochester Public Schools (RPS), the average score was 22.2.

Here’s a look at the graduating class of 2017’s ACT results:

  • In the area of English, 66% of RPS students met or exceeded the ACT Benchmark Score of 18, compared to the state of Minnesota’s average of 63%. A benchmark score is the minimum score needed on an ACT subject-area test to indicate a 50% chance of obtaining a B or higher, or about a 75% chance of obtaining a C or higher in corresponding credit-bearing college courses.

  • In the area of math, 56% of RPS students taking the ACT met or exceeded the benchmark score, compared to the state average of 48%. The ACT benchmark for mathematics is 22.

  • In the area of reading, 52% of RPS students met or exceeded the benchmark score of 22 compared with the state average of 50%.

  • In the area of science, RPS exceeded the state average by 6%, with 48% of RPS students meeting the benchmark score. The ACT benchmark for science is 23.

The ACT data is a measurement of college and career readiness. It measures whether students are meeting college and career benchmarks. “The data gives us a good look at how we are preparing students for college and career readiness,” said Superintendent Munoz. “We also use the ACT data trends beginning in Kindergarten, as we are committed to college and career preparedness for all of our students.”
