Welcome to John Marshall Rugby Club
Current Minnesota Spring High School Rugby Sevens State Champions
The sport of rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the US. After a sold out Soldier's Field game between World Champions, New Zealand All Blacks and the United States International Team, athletes of all backgrounds were tuned in at one of the greatest defeats in the sport's history. Needless to say America woke up. In the past two years the US Eagles Sevens Team did a complete overhaul of their team and now are in the top 5 teams of the world. Ex College Football Stars like Zach Test, Perry Baker, and Thretton Palamo have joined alongside Olympic Sprinters like Carlin Isles, and Minneapolis' Garrett Bender to comprise a team that represents the potential of the US.
With this rise in Rugby Interest within the states, pipelines to the international scene have opened, bringing the high school league to the forefront. Schools all over the United States are founding Rugby Teams, Colleges are setting up Rugby Scholarships and recently the genesis of the National Rugby League, a professional rugby league for the United States.
Rugby differentiates itself from other sports in that it is a non-stop, full contact sport. Size is not an issue for this sport with each position calling the skills of the player, apart from their stature. All players from the 5'5" scrumhalf to the 6'4" prop play as defensive players and offensive players. No other sport requires the full cooperation of the team quite like rugby. There is no single star player on a rugby team, just star teams. With new venues and opportunities opening up for the high school rugby player, there is no better time to start then today!
As a High School Club Sport our players emulate the 3 R's, Respect for their community, Respect for their School, and Respect for the pitch. We strive to train athletes that are not only exemplary on the Rugby pitch but off it as well. If you're still reading then we invite you to join us for a practice, get to meet your potential team mates and be a part of one of the greatest sports in the world. Always remember, Stay Calm and Join the Brotherhood. Cheers!
