JM Color Guard
The John Marshall Color Guard is part of the John Marshall Marching Band. Participants are trained in the use of guard equipment like flags and rifles and in basic dance movement, which are all used to interpret the music and add color to the halftime and parade performances by the John Marshall Marching Band. In addition to providing students with knowledge of new and different skills, it is another means for students to become involved in a group effort. While musical knowledge and skills are helpful, they are not necessary; however, physical coordination and stamina are a must. Auditions are held in the spring of each year. Students that make color guard must be willing to register for band first semester in order for them to rehearse with the band. In addition, color guard members attend Color Guard camp the first that school is out, periodic sectionals throughout the summer, and band camp two weeks before school starts, as well as spending extra time after school throughout the fall quarter preparing for their performances with the band. The color guard performs with the band at home and play-off football games, at one competitive band festival, and at the annual indoor marching band concert.
