Honors Option

An Honors Option for this course will be available shortly. Here are some things to consider before signing up for this option:

Characteristics common to the successful honors option student:

  • Has  a copy of the directions for projects and understands the requirements
  • Reads directions and asks for clarification early in the process
  • Has an understanding of basic MLA formatting conventions
  • Can work independently
  • Can write a basic multi-paragraph essay and knows that revision is important
  • Understands his/her own ability to complete honors requirement; student is able to estimate time needed to complete work; student is able to balance academic requirements and personal life

Characteristics common to the student who does not earn honors credit:

  • Seems unaware of project requirements and deadlines
  • Believes that high quality work can be achieved at the last minute
  • Difficulty with perspective; doesn’t yet recognize how to balance honors courses with other school and family obligations, sometimes perfectionistic to the point of paralysis.

(This can result in strain and burnout. It is okay to drop the honors option by the drop date to accommodate a rigorous class schedule and busy personal life.)
